About Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a tried and tested system of medicine based on a subtle understanding of the body's energies. It is a system of healing which has been the primary method of care in China and the East for thousands of years. It has undergone continual development and refinement over this time.
In health, energy known as Qi (pronounced chee) flows smoothly throughout the body providing nourishment and defence against disease. Illness or pain occurs when the Qi becomes disrupted by infection, injury, poor diet, emotional factors, or weather conditions. Chinese Medicine rebalances the Qi and activates the body's own natural healing mechanisms. Its primary goal is to promote balance and harmony within a person's mind, body and spirit. TCM strives to understand the whole person by weaving together all aspects of the patient's health and find patterns of disharmony. These patterns are the roots of illness and the symptoms are the manifestations or branches. TCM treats both root and branch and therefore promotes healing at a deep level and does not simply suppress symptoms.

ACUPUNCTURE, HERBAL MEDICINE AND MASSAGE THERAPY

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into the Qi pathways. A slight pinprick is sometimes felt but it is usually painless. Needles are usually left in place for 15 minutes while the patient lies down. Many people experience a deep sense of relaxation or feel energized by acupuncture treatment. All needles are sterile and disposed of after single use.

Chinese herbs are drunk as a tea or taken in pill form. They are nearly always plants and endangered species are never used. Vegetarians can request that no animal products are used.

Massage relieves tension and alleviates pain by promoting the smooth flow of Qi and blood. It can be incorporated into treatments when appropriate or used alone. You can book a massage simply for relaxation purposes.
